FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — The Fairfax County community is grappling with profound grief following a violent road rage incident and subsequent officer-involved shooting that unfolded along Interstate 495 on Sunday, March 1, 2026. The tragic events claimed the lives of Michelle Adams, 39, of unknown residence, and Jared Llamado, 32, of McLean, leaving family, friends, and the wider community in shock.

According to the Virginia State Police, troopers were dispatched to the southbound lanes near Exit 52 at approximately 1:17 p.m. after reports of a road rage confrontation. Upon arrival, officers encountered Jared Llamado, armed with a knife. In a confrontation that authorities described as self-defense, the trooper discharged his firearm, striking Llamado. He was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries and later succumbed. The responding trooper was unharmed during the encounter.

In the chaotic aftermath of a crash on I-495, multiple individuals were found injured. Among them, Michelle Adams, 39, tragically died from injuries sustained in the attack. Authorities also reported that a dog involved in the incident did not survive. Three additional victims — Dana Bonnell, 36; Mary C. Flood, 37; and Heather Miller, 40 — were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries and are receiving medical care.

This violent episode, which escalated from a traffic crash to a deadly confrontation, has left the community grappling with grief, fear, and sorrow.
