With heavy hearts, we remember Wuaniata Gibson, an 18-year-old from St. Louis, whose life was tragically cut short. Her body was recovered from the Mississippi River near Festus on February 16 and was positively identified on February 18. Wuaniata had been reported missing from St. Louis City on December 24, 2025, leaving family, friends, and the community in anguish for nearly two months.

Barge workers discovered her remains near River Cement Road, just south of Festus, and immediately alerted authorities. The body was recovered and transported to the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office for examination. Wuaniata was last seen on December 22 in the Baden neighborhood of St. Louis.

While authorities continue their investigation into the cause and circumstances of her death, today we pause to honor the life Wuaniata lived and the impact she had on those who knew her.
