In Loving Memory of
With heavy hearts, we remember and honor the life of 34-year-old Shawnquanice Q. Kimbrough, whose life was tragically taken in an act of violence that has left a community grieving and searching for understanding.
According to University of Illinois-Chicago police, the shooting occurred Tuesday afternoon at the Wood Street Parking Structure. Officers responded to the scene at 1100 South Wood Street just after 1:30 p.m., where witnesses reported hearing gunfire and seeing a heavy police presence on the third level of the garage.
What should have been an ordinary afternoon was shattered in an instant.
In the midst of this heartbreaking violence, there was one small miracle — an infant child present during the encounter was not harmed. In a moment filled with chaos and fear, that spared life stands as a fragile reminder of hope even in unimaginable tragedy.
Authorities confirmed that the suspect fled the scene before officers could make an arrest. Investigators later reported that the suspect was found deceased at a separate location. At this time, the identity of the shooter and their cause of death have not yet been publicly released.
But today, the focus is not on the violence.
It is on Shawnquanice.
It is on her life.
It is on the love she gave, the roles she carried, the dreams she held, and the family and friends now left navigating a painful void.
At just 34 years old, she had so much life still ahead of her. Birthdays yet to celebrate. Milestones yet to reach. Memories yet to create. Her absence leaves a silence that echoes deeply through the hearts of those who knew her.
For her loved ones, this is not just a news headline. It is a mother, a daughter, a sister, a friend. It is laughter that will no longer fill the room the same way. It is a voice that will be dearly missed. It is a presence that cannot be replaced.
Violence has a way of rippling far beyond the moment it occurs. It touches families, coworkers, classmates, and entire communities. And in this case, it has shaken those who were simply going about their day — people who never imagined they would witness such devastation.
As we remember Shawnquanice Q. Kimbrough, we honor her humanity above all else. She was more than the circumstances surrounding her passing. She was a life. A story. A heartbeat. A light in someone’s world.
May her family find strength in one another during this unbearable time.
May the child spared from harm grow surrounded by love and protection.
May the community come together in compassion rather than fear.
And may Shawnquanice rest in eternal peace.
Gone too soon.
Never forgotten.
Forever remembered. 💔
