The community of Mount Vernon is mourning the sudden and heartbreaking loss of 58-year-old Rex A. Loveless, whose life was tragically cut short on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

According to Kentucky State Police Post 11, troopers received a call at approximately 3:06 p.m. from Rockcastle County 911 regarding a collision at the 63-mile marker southbound on Interstate 75. Preliminary findings indicate that Mr. Loveless was operating a 2021 Dodge Charger when he pulled onto the right shoulder of the roadway after experiencing pain. According to his passenger, Melinda Loveless, the vehicle then rolled off the shoulder and struck a rock wall.

Rockcastle County EMS transported Mr. Loveless to Rockcastle Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at 4:03 p.m. Mrs. Loveless was not injured in the collision, and next of kin were present at the scene. Trooper Calder continues to investigate the incident.
