The community of Austin is grieving the sudden and heartbreaking loss of Lukes James Ball, a 31‑year‑old father, friend, and valued member of the community, whose life was tragically cut short in a devastating crash over the weekend. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the collision occurred early Sunday morning on U.S. Highway 218 near 285th Street in Mower County when the southbound vehicle Lukes was driving collided head‑on with a northbound semi‑truck. Despite the rapid response of emergency personnel, Lukes was pronounced deceased at the scene.
First responders from multiple agencies — including the Austin Fire Department, Blooming Prairie Police Department, Mower County Sheriff’s Office, Blooming Prairie Fire Department, Blooming Prairie Ambulance, and Mayo Ambulance — worked together diligently at the scene, reflecting the unity and care of the community in times of crisis.
