In Loving Memory of John Durkin

In Loving Memory of John Durkin

Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, John’s final moments reflected the very heart of the man he was — devoted to those he loved and comforted by their presence. Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we give thanks for a life richly lived and for the blessing of having known him.

John will be deeply and sadly missed by his devoted wife, Margaret, whose love and partnership stood as a testament to commitment, strength, and enduring devotion. Together they built a lifetime of memories — through seasons of joy and challenge, laughter and quiet understanding — forming a bond that will never be broken.

He was a proud and loving father, a cherished grandfather, and a treasured great-grandfather. His children carry forward his values, his guidance, and the lessons he taught not only in words but through the example of how he lived. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever hold close the warmth of his stories, the comfort of his presence, and the security of knowing they were deeply loved.

Beyond his immediate family, John leaves behind extended relatives and many dear friends he met along his long journey through life. He had a way of connecting with people — whether through a shared conversation, a helping hand, or a simple smile. His friendships were lasting, built on loyalty and kindness. He was the kind of man who showed up, who listened, and who cared.

John’s life was one marked by quiet strength, humility, and unwavering dedication to his family. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures — time spent at home, family gatherings filled with laughter, and the comfort of familiar faces. He believed in the importance of love, hard work, and staying true to one’s word. These values will live on in all who knew him.

Margaret would like to express her heartfelt appreciation to the Hospital at Home team and the dedicated professionals at Sobell House Hospice, whose compassionate care and support brought comfort to John and to the family during his final days. Their kindness and dignity in caring for him will never be forgotten.

John’s funeral service will take place at Sacred Heart Church, Blackbird Leys on Friday, 6th March at 12:30 p.m., followed by cremation at Bayswater Crematorium, Barton Road, Oxford. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance, to celebrate his life, and to honor the legacy he leaves behind.

For those who wish to do so, donations in John’s memory to Sobell House Hospice would be greatly appreciated, continuing the compassionate work that meant so much to the family.

Though John’s earthly journey has come to a peaceful close, his love remains woven into the lives of all who knew him. In every shared story, in every family gathering, in every quiet moment of remembrance, his spirit will live on.

Rest peacefully, John.

You were loved deeply, you will be missed dearly, and you will be remembered always.
