In Loving Memory of Daniel Figueroa

In Loving Memory of

Daniel Figueroa

The Chicago community and the suburb of Downers Grove are united in grief following the tragic and senseless death of Daniel Figueroa, a 28-year-old hardworking man whose life was taken far too soon in an act of violence on the city’s West Side.

Daniel was more than a headline or a statistic. He was a son, a partner, a provider, and a man who believed in showing up every single day to do what needed to be done for the people he loved.

A Life Taken in an Instant

In the early hours of the morning, around 2 a.m., Daniel was parked near Loretto Hospital in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood. Having just completed an overnight shift, he was continuing to work, delivering food as an Uber Eats driver — determined to provide and build a future.

Authorities say a woman allegedly jumped into his vehicle in an attempt to steal it. In what investigators believe was Daniel’s effort to stop the theft, he ended up in the path of his own car as it sped away. He suffered devastating injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The suspect, identified by police as Montoya Perry, has been charged with first-degree murder and vehicular hijacking. Prosecutors state that surveillance video and witness testimony connect her to the stolen vehicle and the deadly incident.

But while the legal process unfolds, Daniel’s loved ones are left facing a permanent void.

A Man Who Worked for Those He Loved

Those closest to Daniel describe him as relentless in his work ethic and unwavering in his love. He balanced multiple jobs, not out of obligation alone, but out of devotion — striving to support his family and help provide for his girlfriend and her child.

He wasn’t chasing luxury. He was chasing stability. Security. A better tomorrow.

Friends say Daniel had a quiet strength about him — dependable, responsible, and deeply caring. He was the kind of man who stepped up when needed, who stayed late, who pushed through exhaustion because someone was counting on him.

To know Daniel was to know someone who valued family above all else.

A Community in Mourning

Daniel’s death has shaken not only his family but also the broader Chicago community. His passing is a painful reminder of how quickly violence can shatter lives — how someone simply trying to earn an honest living can become the victim of unimaginable tragedy.

His loved ones have called for justice, saying his life was “taken for nothing.” Their words echo the heartbreak of a family who must now navigate birthdays, holidays, and ordinary days without his presence.

The Austin neighborhood, Downers Grove residents, and many across Chicago are left reflecting on the fragility of life and the urgent need for safety and accountability.

Honoring His Memory

Though Daniel’s life ended at just 28 years old, the impact he made will endure. His dedication, sacrifice, and love will not be forgotten. The example he set — of perseverance, responsibility, and commitment to family — remains a powerful legacy.

To his family: may you find strength in the outpouring of support surrounding you.

To his partner and the child he helped care for: may his love continue to guide and protect you.

To his friends and coworkers: may his memory inspire you to hold tight to the people who matter most.

Daniel Figueroa was working toward a better life when his own was taken. Though his journey was cut short, his story will continue to be told — not defined by violence, but by love, hard work, and the life he gave in service to those he cherished.

May he rest in peace. Forever remembered. Forever loved.
