In Loving Memory of Courtney Whitehead, Kaylee Whitehead, and Aaron Page
The Lamar County community is overcome with grief following a devastating tragedy that claimed three young lives on the night of Friday, February 13, 2026. A two-vehicle collision on Highway 42 has left families, friends, classmates, and neighbors mourning the sudden and unimaginable loss of Courtney Whitehead, 23, of Bassfield; 16-year-old Kaylee Whitehead, also of Bassfield; and Aaron Page, 18, of Sumrall.
According to the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the fatal crash occurred around 8:33 p.m. when a Ford F-150, driven by Aaron Page, was traveling west and collided head-on with a 2021 Toyota Camry driven by Courtney Whitehead, who was traveling east. Inside the Camry were two passengers: Kaylee Whitehead, 16, and a 17-year-old from Carson.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, Aaron, Courtney, and Kaylee were pronounced dead at the scene. The 17-year-old survivor was transported to a hospital and remains hospitalized with critical injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the heartbreaking collision.
But beyond the details of the accident report are three precious lives — each unique, each cherished, each taken far too soon.
Courtney Whitehead – A Guiding Light
At 23 years old, Courtney Whitehead stood in the fullness of young adulthood, building her life with hope and determination. She was known for her strength, her nurturing spirit, and the quiet way she carried responsibility with grace. To her family, she was a source of pride. To her friends, she was dependable and genuine — someone who listened without judgment and loved without hesitation.
Courtney had dreams still unfolding. She had milestones yet to reach and moments yet to celebrate. Her laughter, her kindness, and her presence brought warmth to every room she entered. In Bassfield, her absence now feels deeply personal — a space that cannot be filled.
Kaylee Whitehead – A Life Just Beginning
Sixteen-year-old Kaylee Whitehead was in the vibrant, hopeful season of youth. A high school student with a bright smile and boundless potential, she represented everything beautiful about growing up in a close-knit community.
Kaylee’s days were filled with school, friendships, and dreams of the future. She was discovering who she was becoming, surrounded by family who adored her and friends who cherished her energy. Her life, so full of promise, was just beginning to bloom. The loss of someone so young carries a unique sorrow — not only for who she was, but for all she was meant to be.
Aaron Page – A Young Man with Promise
At 18 years old, Aaron Page of Sumrall was stepping into adulthood. He stood on the threshold of new beginnings — independence, opportunity, and the pursuit of his own path. Those who knew him speak of his heart, his determination, and the quiet strength he carried.
Aaron was someone with plans and purpose. His family and friends saw in him a future filled with possibility. Now, instead of celebrating his next chapter, they are left holding memories — memories that will forever be treasured, even as they bring tears.
A Community United in Grief
Highway 42 has become more than just a roadway; it is now a place marked by sorrow. The events of that Friday night have sent shockwaves through Lamar County, Bassfield, Sumrall, and beyond. Churches, schools, and homes are filled with prayer and quiet reflection. Classmates sit in classrooms with heavy hearts. Families gather closer, reminded of life’s fragile nature.
When tragedy strikes so suddenly, it leaves behind unanswered questions and an ache that words struggle to soothe. The investigation continues, but for those grieving, the greater reality is that three beloved lives are gone.
In moments like this, communities lean on one another. They share stories. They light candles. They hold vigils. They whisper prayers for the injured 17-year-old still fighting to recover. They comfort parents whose hearts are shattered. They remind one another that love does not end, even when life does.
Forever Remembered
Courtney. Kaylee. Aaron.
Three names that will forever be spoken with tenderness and love.
Though their time on earth was far too short, their impact remains. In the laughter they shared, the kindness they showed, the dreams they carried — their legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew them.
To their families, may you find strength in each other and in the outpouring of support surrounding you. May cherished memories become anchors in the storm of grief. And may the love that defined their lives continue to shine even in this darkest hour.
Lamar County will not forget these three young souls. They will be remembered not for the tragedy that took them, but for the lives they lived — vibrant, meaningful, and deeply loved.
Rest peacefully, Courtney Whitehead.
Rest peacefully, Kaylee Whitehead.
Rest peacefully, Aaron Page.
You are gone far too soon, but you will never be forgotten.
