In Loving Memory of Aleena Preetam

In Loving Memory of

Aleena Preetam

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, the community of Good Hope mourns the heartbreaking loss of Aleena Preetam, a 15-year-old young mother whose life ended far too soon. Her passing has left family, friends, and neighbors in deep shock and sorrow, struggling to comprehend how someone so young could be taken so suddenly.

Aleena was found unresponsive in her bedroom on Monday at her family’s home in Region Two, Pomeroon-Supenaam. Relatives grew concerned after hearing her infant crying continuously. When they went to check on her, they discovered Aleena lying motionless on her bed. The devastating discovery has left an entire community grieving.

A postmortem examination conducted at the Suddie Public Hospital Mortuary by Dr. Nehaul Singh determined that Aleena died as a result of heart failure and anemia. Though the medical findings provide answers, they do little to ease the profound heartbreak felt by those who loved her.

Just one month before her passing, Aleena had given birth. Her delivery was regarded as safe, and both mother and baby had returned home. What should have been a time of adjustment, bonding, and hope for a new chapter instead turned into unimaginable tragedy.

Aleena was once a student of Abram Zuil Secondary School. Though her academic journey was interrupted, like many teenagers navigating complex circumstances, she carried dreams and aspirations of her own. She was still a child herself — learning, growing, and facing life’s challenges with the limited experience that comes with youth.

At just 15, Aleena’s life held so much potential. She was a daughter, a friend, and now a mother. Those who knew her remember her as a young girl finding her way in a world that can be both beautiful and overwhelming. Her passing is a painful reminder of how fragile life can be, especially for young mothers who may face health challenges quietly and without warning.

The image of her infant crying in the next room has touched hearts deeply. It is a sorrowful symbol of loss — a child who will grow up knowing of a mother taken too soon. The grief extends beyond immediate family to classmates, neighbors, and members of the Essequibo Coast community who now share in mourning.

In remembering Aleena, we must hold onto her humanity — her smile, her presence, her youth. She was not defined solely by circumstance but by her life, brief as it was. She deserved time — time to grow, to heal, to dream, to mother her child, to rediscover her path.

To her family, no words can truly ease the pain of losing a child. May you find strength in one another and comfort in the love that surrounds you. May Aleena’s baby be surrounded by care, protection, and the stories that keep her memory alive.

Aleena Preetam’s life, though tragically short, mattered deeply. May her soul rest in eternal peace, and may her memory remain a gentle reminder of the preciousness and fragility of young life.
