Queens Man Found Guilty After Pushing Mother Out of Third-Story Window, Sentenced to 25 Years
A harrowing case of domestic violence in Queens has ended with justice after a man was found guilty of attempting to murder his mother by pushing her from a third-story apartment window during a violent confrontation.
Authorities say the incident occurred in November 2024 inside an Astoria apartment at the Marine Terrace complex. Prosecutors allege that 37-year-old George Tsintzelis engaged in a heated argument with his 64-year-old mother, Paraskevi Tsintzelis, over money. During the dispute, he reportedly struck her with a cane and then escalated the violence by grabbing two kitchen knives. Tsintzelis allegedly held the knives against his mother’s body and forced her toward an open window before pushing her out of the third-floor apartment.
Neighbors witnessed the shocking fall and rushed to assist, finding Paraskevi badly injured on the ground. Emergency responders were called immediately, and she was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors treated multiple broken bones and internal injuries. She required several surgeries and faced a prolonged period of rehabilitation.
Investigators said George Tsintzelis even called 911 himself, pretending to be unaware of what had happened. The district attorney described his actions as abandoning his mother “there to die,” highlighting the premeditated and cruel nature of the attack.
Following a trial, a jury convicted Tsintzelis of attempted murder and other related charges. At his sentencing, he pleaded for leniency, but the judge imposed the maximum sentence of 25 years in prison, reflecting the severity of the crime and the ongoing danger he posed to his mother and others.
The case has drawn widespread attention in Queens, raising awareness about domestic violence and the devastating consequences of family disputes escalating into life-threatening violence. Authorities urge anyone experiencing abuse or witnessing it to seek help immediately, noting that intervention can save lives.
Paraskevi’s survival is seen as remarkable given the severity of her injuries, but the emotional and physical scars remain. This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of protecting vulnerable family members and ensuring that perpetrators of violence are held fully accountable.
