HARRISBURG, Pa. — The Harrisburg community is grieving the heartbreaking loss of Romeo Mason Fleck, a 22-year-old soldier whose promising life was tragically cut short over the weekend in a fatal car accident in North Carolina. Romeo, a proud native of Harrisburg, was among three lives lost in the early hours of Saturday morning, leaving family, friends, and communities in Harrisburg, Fort Bragg, and Sanford devastated.

According to the N.C. State Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 3:36 a.m. on NC-87 near Olivia Road in Harnett County. A Toyota Camry carrying three soldiers from Fort Bragg, North Carolina crossed into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with a Chevrolet. Romeo Fleck, driving the Camry, and his fellow soldier, Charles Jackson, 21, riding in the back seat, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Tragically, the driver of the Chevrolet, William T. Underwood, 28, of Sanford, North Carolina, also lost his life. A 20-year-old front-seat passenger in the Camry survived but sustained critical injuries and remains hospitalized.
