JACK COUNTY, Texas — The Jack County community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Joshua James Powers, 20, of Breckenridge, whose life was tragically cut short in an early morning crash on February 27.

According to authorities, Powers was involved in a single-vehicle accident on FM 4, approximately 10 miles south of Jacksboro, at around 6:26 a.m. Preliminary reports from Texas DPS Sergeant Juan Gutierrez indicate that Powers was driving a 1991 GMC C2500 southbound when his vehicle failed to maintain a single lane, veering onto the wrong side of the road and ultimately into the east ditch. Attempting to correct the vehicle’s path, Powers veered west, causing the truck to skid across both lanes before entering the west ditch and rolling. Tragically, Powers was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle, sustaining fatal injuries at the scene.

Joshua’s untimely passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him. Though his time with us was far too brief, he is remembered as a young man full of life, ambition, and the potential to impact the world in meaningful ways. His family and loved ones now face the unimaginable task of carrying forward without his presence, holding on to memories of his laughter, spirit, and the moments they shared together.
