Monica’s passing has left her family, friends, and neighbors in shock and deep mourning. A life that spanned six decades — filled with experiences, relationships, love, and resilience — was cut short in an act of devastating violence.
A Tragic Night
At approximately 10:30 p.m., deputies with the Craven County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding a stabbing on Barbary Coast Drive within the Fairfield Harbour community.
Upon arrival, deputies discovered Monica deceased inside the residence from multiple stab wounds. The scene was one of heartbreak and disbelief — a home that once symbolized comfort and security now marked by tragedy.
Following an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau, authorities identified 60-year-old Nizam Mohammed Hajjeh as the alleged perpetrator. Hajjeh, who identified Monica as his wife, was charged with murder and placed in the Craven County Confinement Facility without bond.
While legal proceedings move forward, Monica’s loved ones are left to grapple with an irreplaceable loss.
Remembering Monica

Violence within a home leaves an especially deep scar. It transforms a private space into a public sorrow. For Monica’s loved ones, the grief is layered — grief for her absence, grief for the circumstances, and grief for the future moments that will never be shared.
Honoring Her Legacy
Though her life ended tragically, Monica’s legacy is not defined by how she died but by how she lived. Her memory will endure in the stories told by friends, in the quiet corners of her community, and in the hearts of those who loved her.
She was someone’s daughter. Someone’s friend. Someone who laughed, who cared, who had dreams and memories and meaning.
As the legal system continues its work, those who mourn Monica hold onto the hope that justice will bring some measure of accountability. Yet even justice cannot replace the love that has been lost.
