In Loving Memory of Corey Smaw

With heavy hearts, we remember and honor the life of Corey Smaw, a beloved son of Washington, North Carolina, whose life was tragically cut short late Wednesday night in a wrong-way crash on U.S. 64 in Martin County.

According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 11:30 p.m. near Everetts. Authorities reported that 47-year-old Corey Smaw was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes when his vehicle collided head-on with an 18-wheeler hauling potatoes. Corey sadly died at the scene as a result of the crash. The driver of the tractor-trailer sustained minor injuries and was transported to ECU Health Edgecombe Hospital for treatment. One lane of U.S. 64 remained closed for approximately four hours as troopers conducted their investigation and crews worked to clear the roadway.

While the details of that night are heartbreaking, today we focus on the life Corey lived — a life filled with energy, talent, friendship, and impact.
